alternativeoperations asked: I saw the picture of your backpack, and I'd like to recommend using Eagle Creek's Pack-It System (http://www.eaglecreek.com/packing_solutions/). I'm fairly certain it will change your life!
I fell in love with the Pack-It cubes and Pack-It sacks during my recent around-the-world trip, and I refuse to travel without them now, even on short trips.

Patagonia Footprints - Product Manufacturing Maps →
alternativeoperations:
Visually explains Patagonia’s supply chain, sourcing strategy, and considerations of sustainability for a number of its products. I think this is way cool, and I wish more companies from all industries would follow Patagonia’s lead.
I’m a fan.

The Log: Earn My Trust, Earn My Money →
chrisbowler:
I’ve learned a lot from being involved in web communities in the past few years. One of the most important to me is that I choose to use my ability as a consumer to support things I believe in. That’s why I buy computers from Apple. It’s also why I buy milk and eggs from a farm outside of town and bread from a bakery on the other side of town. It costs me more money, but I get so...

Mono Lake bacteria build their DNA using arsenic... →
Nature blows my mind!
Curious… I wonder how unstable the arsenic bonds in the DNA backbone? How effective is arsenic in comparison to phosphorus in it’s energy processes? I wonder if it could be a degenerative mutation that can only be maintained by an organism that replicates as fast as it does? So many questions!
Reminds why I studied Biology in the first place.

Make Your Own Tableware
natespain:
Check out the Fast Company Design Blog post.
“Meltware has three stoneware pieces — a spoon, a bowl, and a carafe — that double as molds for extending your set. You make the rest of the collection using Carnauba wax, a super-hard, waterproof wax that comes from palm trees. All you do is melt the wax in a pan, then pour it into the molds, and voila! You’ve got...

A Simpler Winter
There’s something romantic about Winter… or maybe in seasons in general. By romantic I mean it presents us with a new order, a new set of rules to live inside. Fall is nostalgic… and the cold reminds me of camping, the music, the smells, the company of friends and loved ones. Camping and the hikes that usually accompany it are all about living with what you’ve brought and...

Minimalism vs. The Corporation →
mnmal:
“What part of our lives isn’t controlled by corporations? A tiny portion, one that’s shrinking rapidly. Minimalism is a way to shake free of those shackles, slowly. It’s a way of saying, “I don’t need to buy more, to work more in order to get more of your products and services. In fact, I can be happy, content, joyful, creative without spending a single dime. All I need is the...

What's left? Hidden weight.
Your desk is clean. You’ve thrown away non-essential belongings, keeping meaningful items. You understand yourself and your needs. Hell, you’ve inventoried everything and your environment is perfect… a safe harbor to your OCD tendencies. You’ve even taken extra initiative to to be environmentally conscious. What’s left?

aidje asked: I'd like to hear what you have to say about your Arc'teryx backpack. The name and logo caught my eye in your "Travel Light Experiment" post. I looked up the company and now I find myself wanting a Blade 24 (I'm guessing yours is a Blade 15?), but there are no Arc'teryx dealers near me (so that I could look at it myself) and the price tag is pretty steep for my current...
